UEFA Cup reward for Intertoto glory

The draw was held for the first three rounds of the 2005 UEFA Intertoto Cup in Nyon, Switzerland today.
Widespread interest
In all, 61 teams from across the continent will take part in the summer competition, which offers a trio of places in next season's UEFA Cup as its prize. The action starts with the first round first-leg matches on 18/19 June, with the returns following a week later.
July date
The draw was conducted by Thomas Büchler-De la Cruz, general secretary of the European Football Pool, and Jean Fournet-Fayard, co-opted member of the UEFA Club Competition Committee, in the presence of UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson. The draw for the semi-finals and finals will take place when the number of contenders has been whittled down to 12.
Major incentive
There is great incentive for teams entering the competition as Spanish side Villarreal CF have demonstrated for the past two seasons. Having advanced in 2003, they went on to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, something they hope to repeat this term having taken the same route.
